Mozilla Thunderbird 是獨立式郵件與新聞群組用戶端。
處理格式有誤的內容時發現數個瑕疵。
惡意內容可導致 Thunderbird 損毀，或可能以執行 Thunderbird 之使用者的權限執行任意程式碼。(CVE-2013-1701)
在 Thunderbird 產生 Certificate Request Message Format (CRMF) 要求的方式中發現一個瑕疵。攻擊者可利用此瑕疵執行跨網站指令碼 (XSS) 攻擊，或以執行 Thunderbird 之使用者的權限執行任意程式碼。(CVE-2013-1710)
在 Thunderbird 處理框架和瀏覽器歷程記錄互動的方式中發現一個瑕疵。攻擊者可利用此瑕疵，誘騙 Thunderbird 以為這些惡意內容是來自瀏覽器歷程記錄，從而發動 XSS 攻擊。(CVE-2013-1709)
據發現，JavaScript 檢查統一資源識別碼 (URI) 的方式可允許繞過同源原則。攻擊者可利用此瑕疵執行 XSS 攻擊，或從第三方頁面安裝惡意附加程式。(CVE-2013-1713)
據發現，Web 背景工作可繞過同源原則。攻擊者可利用此瑕疵執行 XSS 攻擊。(CVE-2013-1714)
據發現，在某些情況下，Thunderbird 會不正確地處理 Java applet。如果使用者透過 Thunderbird 啟動未受信任的 Java applet，applet 就可利用此瑕疵，取得使用者本機系統中的檔案唯讀存取權。(CVE-2013-1717)
Red Hat 要感謝 Mozilla 專案報告這些問題。上游確認 Jeff Gilbert、Henrik Skupin、 moz_bug_r_a4、Cody Crews、Federico Lanusse 和 Georgi Guninski 為這些問題的原報告者。
注意：由於郵件訊息預設為停用 JavaScript，因此攻擊者無法利用特製的 HTML 郵件訊息惡意利用上述問題。這些問題可在 Thunderbird 中透過其他方式遭到惡意利用，例如，檢視完整的遠端 RSS 摘要內容。
所有 Thunderbird 使用者皆應升級至此更新版套件，其中包含可更正這些問題的 Thunderbird 17.0.8 ESR 版。
安裝更新之後，Thunderbird 必須重新啟動，變更才會生效。
