Red Hat 針對每個主要 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 版本提供四個階段的支援和服務：生產階段 1、2、3，以及延長使用壽命階段。若是 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4，生產階段持續七年，緊接著是三年的延長使用壽命階段。同時，這四個階段構成「生命週期」。

在 2012 年 3 月 1 日，Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 系統繼續訂閱 Red Hat Network (RHN) 上的 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 通道、繼續需要 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 權利，而且繼續擁有下列存取權：

* 現有 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 部署的有限技術支援 (針對具有 Basic、Premium 或 Standard 支援的客戶)。
